Timber Ridge Assisted Living wins state award
Timber Ridge has received a statewide award from the California Assisted Living Association (CALA) for Innovations in Quality in a food service program. The Restaurant Style menu and meal program that we have implemented has been a huge success, not only in resident satisfaction and cost savings, but the dietary staff feel as though they are learning new skills, as well, Cory Smart, Timber Ridge food service director.
One of the reasons this restaurant style program is successful is due to the staffs ability to customize meals for the majority of residents. Smart worked for three months with the cooking staff, teaching them to provide residents with more of a coffee shop style restaurant and less of a cafeteria atmosphere. Larona Farnum, co-owner of Timber Ridge, said she was proud of the award and of the services Cory and his team have provided to the residents. Food is a basic necessity in out lives, but good food is also an important part of out joy of living and we feel that our residents deserve the very best,
Farnum said.
The award will be formally presented to Larona Farnum, co-owner of Timber Ridge, and Food Service Director Cory Smart at an industry convention in
October.
Farnum appointed to the state board.
Local business woman Larona Farnum was recently honored with an appointment to the Statewide board of the California Assisted Living Association (CALA) and in addition, was one of eight people in the state appointed by CALA to serve on a Medication Task Force.
Farnum is the co-owner of Timber Ridge Assisted Living in Eureka and Mckinleyville. The appointment to the board came as a surprise to her. I really wasnt expecting to be selcted for something like this, but everyone who knows me knows that I am a vocal proponent of the needs of seniors, not only in our community but in out society. I am honored by the selection and I feel that my experience in this field and my message about seniors can be helpful to CALA. I am looking forward to playing a part in the advancement of care for Californias seniors.
Farnum added that the medication Task Force is an exciting opportunity to help get some guidelines for the safe distribution of medication within assisted living environments. I have designed a safe distribution process at Timber Ridge and believe that this is one of the reasons I was selected to participate on this task force.
