Senior Assisted Living Residents: What Do They Do All Day?
Seniors Helping Others - Not All Seniors Are the Same
Americans tend to think senior citizens have a diminished interest in the world around them and especially seniors in assisted living residences. We think seniors in residential facilities are just looking for a warm, comfortable place where they can sit and rock away the rest of their years.
We need to change how we visualize our seniors because they are not all the same. Oh sure, there are a few that have limited interest in hobbies, people, community, or world affairs. (but then you find people like that in every age group dont you?) Some seniors in assisted living centers have not lost a bit of their interests and in fact, are relishing in the fact that they can finally devote all their time to what ever they like!
Senior Citizens Will Amaze You!
The residents of Timber Ridge constantly amaze staff and family members with the intensity and variety of their interests! Oh sure, most of our residents move a bit slower and many need special equipment to get around; and some might need to think a bit longer to get a word just right, but dont mistake that for being all washed up in life. If you watch them, their varied interests will amaze you.
Seniors in Assisted Living Residence Still Helping Others
This past Christmas season a group of seniors in Timber Ridge partnered with a local elementary school to provide an extra special Christmas treats to some families in need. The seniors gathered baskets and spent three days packing them with goodies they felt would be missed by these families during the holiday season. Using the Timber Ridge bus and driver, they took the baskets to a distribution point and personally put them in the hands of needy families. It was a rewarding experience for the school, families in need and the seniors and a great example of seniors helping others.
Seniors Helping Others - Timber Ridge Seniors Help the Troops in Iraq
The Timber Ridge spirit of giving and helping others is clearly alive and well in our Eureka and McKinleyville facilities. In fact, one success has lead to even bigger plans for a partnership with the USO and the local National Guard to help our troops in Iraq. The Timber Ridge seniors have adopted a platoon!
They know that our troops need to know they are appreciated and thought of daily, so they are writing letters and making up special care packages and they are also becoming surrogate grandparents to the children of troops in Iraq. Our seniors are helping our troops.
Seniors Helping Others - Seniors Making Plans for More Community Support
Plans are in the works to step up the Timber Ridge Seniors assistance to the local Food Bank to go beyond just holidays.
Our seniors have a great interest in children. They have come up with a clever way of letting the little ones know how much they love them by dedicating a wall in each facility to elementary school childrens art. A different elementary school will be featured every other month.
So, now you know what residents of Timber Ridge Senior Assisted Care do all day they're working hard at projects to help others. They want to help and send a message that seniors continue to care about family, community and nation they just do it a bit slower now a days.
At Timber Ridge Senior Assisted Living centes were prould of helping each other and of our seniors helping others.
